Old Wilmot Bakehouse Bed and Breakfast

Old Wilmot Bakehouse Bed and Breakfast is home to Tasmania's Largest operating Wood-Fired Scotch Bakers Oven built in 1900, officially opened in 1902.

Wilmot is situated half way between the Spirit of Tasmania dock in Devonport and Cradle Mountain National Park and is in the ideal location to spend 3 or 4 days exploring all the region has to offer.

Whether you want to go for a hike in Cradle Mountain National Park, visit the Tassie Devils at Devils at Cradle, enjoy some fishing or skiing at Lake Barrington, visit local wineries and explore the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail, try the adventure of Cradle Mountain Canyons or explore Mole Creek Caves and Leven Canyon, it is all within 30 - 40 minutes drive from the Old Wilmot Bakehouse.

Wilmot is also known as the Valley of the Views with spectacular scenery as you drive from Devonport through Forth along the Forth River. You will be inspired by breathtaking views of Mount Roland, Lake Barrington and all the delights the mountains and valleys have to share.

Now we do pride ourselves on being a place to escape the rat race and enjoy all the delights the country lifestyle has to offer. From the minute you drive down the driveway under the spectacular arch of Golden Elms at Old Wilmot Bakehouse you will feel like you have left the rest of the world behind. For this reason, we don’t offer television facilities for our guests… we want you to soak up the atmosphere, relax and refresh yourself with good food, fresh air and great company. If it is a little cool then there is nothing better than to sit in the Bakehouse by the historic wood-fired oven and if it is a little warm then you can enjoy the benefits of the beautiful shade and cool breeze in our garden.

You can start your day with a delicious Bakehouse breakfast which includes locally made Tasmanian produce. A continental breakfast of granola full of hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds toasted in leatherwood honey with delicious natural, organic yoghurt and fresh seasonal fruit. This is followed by some of our very own Bakehouse Sourdough fresh from our 113 year old wood-fired bakers oven with locally made butter, jam, honey and marmalade. You will also enjoy locally produced orange, apple or apple and raspberry juice or tea and locally roasted Infuse coffee. Yes we have real coffee at the Old Wilmot Bakehouse!

If you are going to be out and about all day, we can pack you a picnic lunch fit for a king so you don’t need to be concerned about where or what you will eat.

At the end of your day you can home and relax to enjoy a country-style home-cooked dinner in the Bakehouse with your hosts, Davide, Larna and Tino Pittiglio. We invite guests to join us at our family table on Monday - Thursday nights for a home-cooked set menu dinner and dessert. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights the Bakehouse is also open to the public for Slow-Cooked Roast Night, Mixed Grill Night and All-You-Can-Eat Wood-fired Pizza Night.

At the Old Wilmot Bakehouse we don’t cook gourmet food. We prefer honest, real, country food made with quality local produce that makes you feel like you have 'come home' after a busy day touring. We use as much locally produced, organic, ethically raised produce that is available to us, so you are guaranteed a showcase of local Tasmanian produce. You will have no need to go hungry, drive for miles for a meal or dine on pre-packaged food you have had to pack with you when you stay at the Old Wilmot Bakehouse Bed and Breakfast. If you like a wine, beer or cider with your meal, we recommend you bring them with you as we are a BYO venue.

So if you are looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the simplicity of country living while you explore the spectacular region that is Cradle Mountain and North West Tasmania, we would love to invite you to visit with us at Old Wilmot Bakehouse.
